Mr. Andrew Shimmin is an
Australian and internationally
trained Orthopaedic Surgeon. He graduated from Monash
University Medical School in 1985 and did his early post
graduate training at Prince Henry’s and the Alfred
Hospital.
He commenced the Orthopaedic training program of the
Australian Orthopaedic Association in 1991, completing
this training in 1994. He subsequently gained
international experience in the U.S.A., Europe and
England. In 1996 he commenced private practice as a
member of the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group and is a
Director their research foundation.
He specialises in the surgical management of hip and
knee problems caused by arthritis and sporting injuries.
This includes special expertise in hip resurfacing
surgery. He is a founding member of the International
Hip Resurfacing Society (IRHS)
and is on international design teams for the next
generation
of hip and knee replacements.
He is also involved in research of hip resurfacing,
cartilage regeneration and stem cell therapies.
He regularly presents at National and International
Orthopaedic meetings on hip resurfacing/replacements and
cartilage repair.
In 2008 he has presented the results of research at the
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in San
Francisco.
He is married with two children, lives in bayside
Melbourne and competes in Veterans tennis and athletic
events and is a golfing tragic.
